Thanks for a great first year Carcross!

As of September 1, 2015, Icycle Carcross will be closed for the season! It was a great first summer despite key staff concussion injury delaying the launch of Icycle Carcross. We were open weekends through out the summer selling last minute riding supplies, like cliff bars, spare tubes, brake pads and the odd tire or two. Our service shop in the Carcross Commons also saved a few rider’s days fixing brakes and shifting issues as well as doing routine tune ups for Carcross locals and helping out the trail crew kids.

In 2016 we are planning on opening in mid-may and possibly looking to add a shuttle service as well as other products to our store, so stay tuned for more action in the action sports capital of Yukon.

Spring has sprung – Why we do service by appointment

In years past Icycle took service drop off on Monday mornings at 10 am till we were full for a week’s worth of repairs. This caused huge problems for customers – they couldn’t make it down at 10 on Monday and during the busiest times we would be full in 15 minutes and would have to turn everyone else away. The service storage area would also be jammed with bikes, making life difficult for our mechanics. Also, because of the sometimes at least a week turn around on bike service, customers would be without their trusty steeds for a week or more.

Now we try to manage the service flow by doing as many bikes as we can on an appointment basis. You are without your bike for less time and we store it for less time, making us able to actually handle more bikes than before! In April, May and June the wait for an appointment does get a little long and we are always working to improve the situation with more staff and more efficient service management. We ask for your understanding and some foresight on your part. Plan ahead if you know you have an event coming up and you want your bike in tip top shape, book an appointment well in advance. Even better take advantage of our off-season service specials throughout the fall and winter months!

Never fear! If you have a bicycle emergency and need immediate service without an appointment, you can take advantage of our same day rush service for an additional charge.

Fall Suspension Service Special

Recently there was a poll of riders on Pink Bike asking people how often they service their suspension. Not surprisingly, most of the people polled are not servicing their suspension as often as it should be, both to prevent premature wear and maintain performance. Most forks should be re-lubed every 30 to 50 hours of riding and fully overhauled every 100 hours of riding – That means a full service for most riders once a year! and a re-lube up to 3 times a year. Air rear shocks should have an air-can service every 30 hours of riding and coil and air shocks should have a full rebuild at a factory service centre (send out to Vancouver) once a year. This kind of service is very important both to maintain the performance of your suspension and to catch and prevent any issues that could develop into a serious issue. Here’s the link to Fox’s service site  and here is the link to Rock Shox service site (you have to look up your product’s user manual and the service intervals are listed in the manual).

In house, we can perform full-overhauls and re-lubes on all Rock Shox and Fox forks (case by case with other brands). Full overhaul is $60 plus seals and oil, Re-lube is $30 plus oil. We can perform air-can service on rear shocks in house and it costs $30 plus seal kit. For a full overhaul of a rear shock, it must be sent out to Vancouver to the factory service centre at a cost of between $150 and $200 including shipping.

Starting Monday October 6th, Icycle will be running our annual Fall Suspension Service Special – All in house suspension and frame pivot service is 20% off parts, oil and labour – TAKE ADVANTAGE NOW AND KEEP YOUR BIKE RUNNING SMOOTH!!
